Does Your Pet Suffer from Spinal Problems?

When the spine is diseased, your pet may be uncoordinated in its movements, or may not be able to use one or more limbs. Some spinal problems, such as spinal trauma and certain disc herniations, require emergency surgery. Our surgical team is available 24/7 for such emergencies, so your pet will have the best chance for a successful outcome.

The specific diagnostic tests for spinal abnormalities are CT +/- myelogram (injection of contrast into the spinal canal to outline the spinal cord), spinal tap, and MRI. These tests require general anesthesia to keep your pet still in order to obtain good quality images. This can be performed safely and comfortably for your pet. If a spinal compression is identified, spinal surgery is typically recommended to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord.

Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP):

SWFVS offers the Arthrex ACP® System which provides rapid, safe, and efficient concentration of platelets and growth factors from autologous (from the same patient) blood for use in orthopedic treatment sites and degenerative joints.

ACP speeds recovery times, decreases infection rates, and is also a viable option to improve comfort for patients with severe arthritis.

ACP can be applied during orthopedic surgical procedures or can be injected on an outpatient basis into one or multiple arthritic joints.
